2008 Texas State & District 8 Tournament

The Texas Tournament will be held June 6th & 7th (Friday & Saturday)

The Texas State and District 8 Open Tournament will be held June 6-7 in McKinney, Texas.  The tournament will be held again at the Hillcrest Christian Church, 509 S. Graves Street, McKinney.  Phone # 972-542-6070

The Super 8 Motel, located 910 North Central Expressway (on Highway 75).  Phone number is 972-548-8880.

There are 10 rooms blocked for checker players and/or families.  The rooms are King and/or double Queens.  The rate is $49.99 plus tax.  After the ten blocks are filled the double Queens will be $59.99.  This is a special rate for Checker Players and families. Checkout time will be 11:00 a.m. Saturday, unless you plan to stay longer.  The manager requested that you call for reservations no later than May 25th as June is their busiest month.

The Tournament will begin with a short business meeting and registration at 10:00 a.m., and play will begin shortly afterward.  Seven Rounds will be played, with 3-4 rounds on Friday and the rest on Saturday.

The entrance fee will be $20.00.  ACF membership is required, which may be paid upon entry for non-members.  The standard annual membership fee of $25.00 will be forward to ACF.

I received an email from Dr. Richard Beckwith, ACF Player's Representative which stated a new dues schedule will appear in our "ACFB" April bulletin.

Essentially, all ACF memberships will revert back to a January-December calendar year cycle rather than being good for the 12 months at the time dues are paid.   So if people pay their dues mid-year, the $25 will be pro-rated down.

For example (and these are the announcement differences), for the Texas / District 8 tournament event in June, ACF dues will be $12.50 (June to December 2008) rather than $25 for regular membership.    Read Actual Document
